5th Annual Smokin’ Q Classic

The Smokin’ Q Classic is an official Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned event where teams compete for prize money and the next level of competition.

Hosted by the Vista Village Business Association, BBQ teams descend on Historic Downtown Vista on Friday afternoon to spend up to 24 hours seasoning, smoking, and grilling their choice cut of meats for competition day.
Judges come from states near and far to find out whose BBQ is the best of the best.
Our 2013 Teams will compete for a guaranteed $10,000 of prize money, KCBS points and trophies.  If team participation exceeds 60 or more teams, the Smokin’ Q Classic will award $12,500 in prize money.

There is something for everyone at the Smokin’ Q Classic!
Featured at the Smokin’ Q Classic are 2 oz BBQ Tastes for purchase, a street fair, live entertainment, a refreshing beer garden, and the Second Annual Blazin’ Bike Show.

CHARITY

Every year the Vista Village Business Association chooses a charity to receive a portion of the profits from the Smokin’ Q Classic and Vista Rod Run.  Solutions for Change has once again won our hearts and we are proud to support their cause!

SFC_Logo_TransparentNOWordsSolutions for Change provides access to the skills, knowledge, and resources homeless families need to regain their physical, emotional, and economic health and permanently solve their homelessness.

The adults-once securely housed and their children in school-participate in Solutions University, a 1000-day program to identify and eradicate the core issues that caused each family to become homeless.  Solutions coaches work with residents to create a program tailored to each person’s needs.  Solutions University is a unique and highly successful effort that has garnered national attention and recognition.

Since 1999, Solutions has guided more than 650 families and their 1300 children to a permanent solution to their homelessness, while saving taxpayers an estimated $32 million in public support costs!

CHAIRS FOR CHARITY

The Smokin’ Q Classic is pleased to host the final auction of the Chairs for Charity project. Over the last few months chairs, hand painted by artists, have been displayed throughout the downtown area.  During the Smokin’ Q Classic these works of art will be auctioned off at our Main stage.  Funds will go to art related groups and projects including: Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts, North County Lifeline, Kenneth A. Picerne Foundation.  Sponsoring this effort is Staged4Sale, ArtBeat on Main Street, Jeff Underdahl, Vista Art Foundation, Chiropractic Rehabilitation Wellness Center and the VVBA.
